In December 2019, the High-Level Climate Champions received a mandate by national governments at COP25 to improve the Marrakech Partnership (MPGCA) as part of the decision to extend the MPGCA until 2025. Following a year-long consultative process, the High-Level Champions presented their vision for the improved Marrakech Partnership at the March 2021 MPGCA strategy meeting.
On May 5, 2021, the Galvanizing the Groundswell of Climate Actions network submitted an open letter to the High-Level Champions expressing their reaction to this vision. The letter congratulates the significant progress already taken to strengthen the Marrakech Partnership, stresses the need for greater detail on key areas of work, and underlines the importance of establishing a sustainable organizational infrastructure moving forward.
